Chapter 24

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo exits her office and says "Yeardleigh, how are you doing with that list?"
Yeardleigh says "Not great. I have compiled as much information as I can on each."
"Where?"
"On the computer. I was about to send it to you."
"I don't have time. Evelyn had issues."
"I'm sorry. I should have sent her away."
"No. The clients come first. Let me see what you've got."
Yeardleigh stands up. "Sure. Sit down." Indigo sits down. "What are you looking for?"
"I don't know exactly. I was hoping something would jump out at me."
"I got email addresses for some of the no contact detail companies."
"How did you do that?"
"I put my details in to receive a price guide."
"Good thinking. Have you tried calling any of these?"
"No. I wouldn't know what to say."
"Where's the list?"
"Which one? My list or the one your friend gave you?"
"Either. Both."
Yeardleigh moves some papers. "Here."
Indigo looks at the lists. "Where are the numbers for these?"
"Under the keyboard." Indigo stares at the lists. "Boss, you're going to give yourself a headache."
"A headache?"
"From straining your eyes."
"Planning parties is a headache. That's why people hire these companies."
"Are you talking to me or is this your thought process?" Indigo picks up the phone and starts to dial. "Thought process it is."
"This one. Show me everything."
Indigo points at the list of phone numbers. "Coldendark Event Planners? Excuse me." Yeardleigh stands in front of the computer. "Why this one?"
Indigo holds up her hand. "Yes, hello. I want to throw a party for my brother's thirtyth birthday, but I've got a lot on work wise. I was just hoping you can help me."
Through the phone, Summer says "Indigo, Gaz's birthday is next year."
"Summer? Have I found you?"
"You've found my work."
"Then I'd like to arrange an appointment for today to discuss the services you offer."
"I'm sorry. I'm fully booked today but there is a possibility of sometime tomorrow afternoon."
"Summer, come on."
"I have to go. I've got things to do."
"It's not six o' clock yet."
"Then stop wasting time."
The line goes dead. Indigo puts the phone down. "S**t!"
Yeardleigh says "How did you know?"
"I guessed. What did you find?"
"Not much. They will organize any event from kids birthday parties to corpaprate events."
"Is there anything else? Address? Customer reviews? Anything?"
"Yeah, wait. There were some photos of recent events on their website. How will that help?"
"It might not." Indigo picks up the phone and dials. "Zarifa, Indigo... Focus your search on Coldendark Event Planners... Thanks." Indigo puts the phone down. "You got those photos?"
"Right here."
Yeardleigh turns the the screen towards Indigo. Indigo looks at the screen. "There has to be something. There. I know that place." Indigo stands up, rushes into her office and comes back out with her jacket and purse. "Keep looking into that. Call me if you find anything I can use."
"Where are you going?"
"Mad. I'm going mad. I must be."
Indigo leaves the office. Yeardleigh looks at th photos. "Is that a pizza place?"

Indigo in her car. Her phone rings. Indigo answers it and says "Yeah?"
Through the phone, Zarifa says "I found those addresses. Sabrina Xander lives at 423 Blackoak Road."
"And the address for Coldendark is the same?"
"Yeah. 423A."
"I'm on my way now. Thank you."
"Do you think you'll make it?"
"I hope so."
"Got my fingers crossed for you."
Indigo hangs up. "Twenty six minutes to get through rush hour traffic? I can do this."

You are very skillful about moving the narrative along without too many extraneous words. And in this case it's an interesting narrative. I like the way you're building the mystery.
