Chapter 73

Indigo in her office. Meredith enters and says "Indigo, we need to talk."

Indigo looks up and says "What is it? Is something wrong?"

Meredith sits down. "The police searched your parents' house this morning."

"Did they find anything? Have they found him?"

"No, they haven't found him."

"But they found something?"

"Indigo, do you know who Noya Howell is?"

Indigo tenses. "Why?"

"Were you close?"

"I didn't say I knew her."

"I didn't say it was a her and you didn't have to. How close were you?"

"We dated for almost a year."

"What happened?"

"What has this got to do with anything?"

"Indigo, it's important."

"Why?"

"Please?"

Indigo slams her hand on her desk. "Not until you tell me why you're asking about her."

"I can't give you details but I can tell you it's related."

"It ended because she killed herself."

"What else can you tell me?"

"She did it on our anniversary. Left a note explaining how it was my fault. At least that's what her mother told me. Why are you asking all this?"

"I can't tell you. I'm sorry that happened to you. Does Summer know?"

"It hasn't really come up."

"You should tell her before she finds out from someone else."

"Who else knows?"

"It's connected to her case. That's all I can tell you." Merdith stands. "I want you to either take time off or work from home."

"Have I done something wrong?"

"No, Indigo, but while I'm working on this case I can't risk it."

"Risk what?"

"You're too close to this and you know it. Go home now. If I see you in this building before I say you can return, I'll fire you."

"You wouldn't do that."

"Try me. You've got ten minutes before security escorts you out. I'll keep in touch."

Meredith leaves. Indigo grabs her phone, dials and holds it to her ear. "Hey, are you free?.. Met me at mine... I'll tell you when I see you... Thanks... Bye."

Indigo hangs up, grabs her bag and jacket and leaves her office.
