Migration

Migration

A Poem by JR

Birds out on a thin power line

I’ve watched them for years

they take wing into the tempest of winter

when the season change, when the trees

lose the feather of their arch

sometimes, the birds

they don’t come back

I wonder, what do they find out there?

is it death that comes with a swift brutal claw?

is it love?

do they find themselves?

or do they get lost

out there in the darkness,

just before the dawn

can lead them home;

I’ve watched them fly away

sometimes, they don’t come back
