Afterlife

Afterlife

A Poem by JR

Sat on the curb in the rain

letting it wash all over me

as I watch you slow walk away

your boots heels clock in puddles

keeping time, beating a dying heart

no matter how cold I get

it won’t take the memory of your warmth

no matter how much the water

pours over my uncovered head

staining my hair like dreams

I can never be reborn clean

here in the afterlife of us
