The Tapping at the Window

The Tapping at the Window

A Poem by J.S.R. Rayburn
"

There's a tapping at my window.

"

Tap

Tap

Tap

There’s a tapping at my window

At 3:02 AM

Maybe it’s a bird

Or maybe it’s a man

Do I dare take a peek?

I do

I lift up my blinds

A figure standing the dark

Stares back at me

I rush into my parent’s bedroom.

“There’s a man outside my window.”

They carry me back to bed

Tell me to stop being silly

And to go to sleep

I try to obey.

Tap

Tap

Tap

There’s that tapping again.

I get out of bed.

And go check again.
