Stale toast and coffee

Stale toast and coffee

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Lazy days
Dog bark for an alarm
Remember the coat and slippers
It is cold outside
Breakfast?
Odd habit,
 I normally avoid.
Bread redeemed with fire and jam.
Coffee.  Strong.  Something a five year old should not be drinking.

Each a memory.
Early morning,
Mom and I take a drive.
Meeting with Dad.
Diner in a lull.
Glass of milk,
  halfway gone,
coffee for a topper,
 few spoons of sugar.
Toast, pancake, or pastry
  something on the side,
sometime even a Hostess fruit pie.
Awake enough for a few memories.
Take the dog in,
and coax her to her bed.
Think about a glass of milk,
 little less than halfway full.
