Notre-Dame

Notre-Dame

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

I see the news
said the Notre-Dame
to the pigeons in the sky
I see the people cry
said he why oh why
do they weep for me
I dont know why?
what especially for me?
was i not just stone and mud
a simple labour of some love
of sweat and toil
the people cry and stare and dream
of me how yesterday I strongly stood
I can be strong again
I can be what you want me to be
I just wont be quite so ancient old
life has challenges and this is only one
my people my France will see me through
as Frenchmen often do

I love this, its simple yet the words can be interpreted in many different way, I especially like "was i not just stone and mud", its important to remember that its not about the stone, its about what it had seen, endured and stood for and shall stand for in the future.

Oh thanks Jacob that’s lovely of you to write thanks 🙏
This poem encapsulates what is so great about your writing . . . it's your point of view. You have the most unique ways of delivering some observation about life or the world. Personifying Notre Dame is not only a great idea, but the WAY you portray this personification is what makes you so unique. It feels like you put some of yourself into this personality for the cathedral. The ending is so matter-of-fact & conversational . . . no sensationalizing this event. I love your always-fresh approach (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks so much got your kind review N
Wonderful poetry shared dear Julie. Notre-Dame will be rebuilt. I saw her in 1978. I love the ancient city and old structures. Thank you for sharing your amazing words and your thoughts.

ThAnkyou coyote for your review much appreciated
Wow, Julie you have written a wonderful, hopeful anthem for the rebuilding and preservation of beloved Notre-Dame Cathedral, and for the strength and resilience of the French. I love your stunning personification of the cathedral and her moving plea to her people to resurrect her and make her glorious again. Thank you for lifting our spirits and for speaking out for the rebirth of Our Lady.

Notre Dame survived Napoleon and Hitler, only to fall to a fire. But, as your poem indicates, it will rise.
