the TreesA Poem by john l smithnature nulifiedThe trees Sound of
chainsaws, through the air Through doomed
trees, they rip and tear As helpless forest
creatures stare A forest
wide, is laid bare Their life
surround now unbound By that harsh
relentless sound Where
creatures lived and dreamed Now useless stumps
there seen The paving
crew, arrived next day To install an
eight lane freeway Where great
trees grew in pride Progress took
another stride A morass of manmade
mall mass Tall towers
with bird killing glass Mankind
leaves another smear Robbing space
from squirrel and deer Housing
tracts where forests grew More pollution, that we accrue If our loved
ones will enjoy their day We must find,
another way How far can natures’
beat retreat Do we not
hear her drumbeat It is without
delay We must find
another way © 2018 john l smithReviews
