Carpenter Glue

Carpenter Glue

A Poem by john l smith
"

nearly veenerly

"

That shapely 5’2” sweet wooden Sue

Was held together with carpenter’s glue

Although she had to stay out of wet weather

To keep her sleek structure together

Tho the lady had been clamped up quite tight

Her slender veneer was constructed too light

Water would make her dados all swell

And her dovetails would all go to hell

With naught but thin deciduous veneer

And mahogany inlay ear to ear

It was not just water but fire

That could cause her each board foot to expire

With best intentions being most ardent

She was dipped into mislabelled retardant

The unfortunate result of all this of course

Was her ending up as a sawhorse

That's the benchmark of comedy.
Not a bad way to go I suppose.
Some are just not for gluing.

lol, think he's still sniffing it.
this is very clever and funny.....sort of an allegory....but when i think of a woman like this....i don't think she was well treated...or well enough protected...and she didn't treat herself well enough either...didn't take care of herself...and well...i don't think she wants to see herself in the mirror as this..."sawhorse"!

thanks for the smile, Dave,
j.
