Mary and Arthur

Mary and Arthur

A Poem by john l smith
"

pancakes

"

When Mary first met Arthur

He had a charming smile

And when he cooked pancakes

He made a mega pile

He loved to cook a lot

But made quite a dent

In their limited budget

With the money that he spent

He gave the food away

To whomever he could

They were glad to take it

Cause it tasted so damn good

Soon people came in droves

Arriving at their front door

He was glad to accommodate

Always cooking ever more

Homeless people then arrived

Erecting tents all round

Soon not a single empty spot

Could be seen in the town

Finally Mary said to Arthur

Things could not keep on this way

You’ll have to get out immediately

But please

Send me two pancakes every day

Ha Ha you did it again this made me laugh :) I like this Arthur fellow he should tell Mary if she wants pancakes she will have to pitch a tent like all of the rest of them! It is a Pavlov thing... once i drive across the border to the falls (a trip I take frequently) I am almost always thinking about pancakes the next morning and of course real Maple syrup so much so i am part owner of a small farm that includes a stand of black maples:) so soon i will be tapping! You Canadians are pancake aficionados! perfect rhythm and rhyme in this write and love the imagery.

Great ending to a very good poem, sir! I can image the scene you painted here, especially the exchange between Mary and Arthur. In my house, roles would certainly be reversed. Thanks for sharing this one.

Appreciate your visit
Thanks

The saga of Mary and Arthur . . . and of course the multitudes of pancake eaters across the country.
Apparently, Mary loved pancakes more than Arthur . . . I would say she should put that request in the final divorce settlement . . . not sure Arthur would be so kind. Perhaps, Dave, you could get Arthur a job at IHOP?
P.S. If you got any pancakes left after all the reviews are in, you could send them to Kentucky!?

Seems Mary didn't really appreciate Arthur's total unselfishness. She wanted those pancakes for herself. I reckon she wanted them all. Sounds like she also had a keen eye over their bank balance :) Good afternoon to you Dave.

So that's it--wifey hates all that pancake-making, but still wants hers. Arthur, while doing a wonderful deed, is breaking their bank. Sounds like they need a magic genie.
