Sing me to sleep

Crumpled sheets, flattened pillows,

eyes- blue as the ocean at noon,

the emotions behind them

falling onto me like waves, crashing.

The gentle undulation softening

lips that brush my skin like the mist of water

as water hits rock - rock moves water.

The clean scent of fabric, wrapping around me

spotted by the warmth of your presence

cold by your absence

sliding my legs between-bridging the gap

 

Hum that melody, sing me to sleep

Whisper that I am yours as I lightly dream

brushing stray hairs from my eye, down my cheek

watching my eyes flutter as I drift off, asleep.

 

Deep inhale, subsides to calm,

holding onto breath, to you.

Fingertips running like slight trickles of water;

pouring down arms, draped over my side.

Palm of hand pressed running length of spine,

lips that remain in that half-kiss upon my brow.

Breath inhaled as breath exhaled

nestled deep within the crook, face buried in the scent-

breathing you as you breathe me.

Flesh keeping you from me

being you being me

 

Hum that melody, sing me to sleep

Whisper that you love me, and forever shall keep

brushing stray hairs from my eye, down my cheek

watching my eyes flutter as I drift off, asleep.

 

Toes trail a path up and down a calf

like a small rake through a Zen garden.

Limbs entangled, like driftwood twisted to form us,

unmoving, solidarity embodied as one.

Thoughts flow in while your heart pours out;

you speak it loud, yet no sound escapes your lips,

save for that melody -that is to you as is to me.

Crinkled features now beset your face-

weathered through years when water hit rock-

fell to me as well, as the waves came crashing,

smoothing us out like soft pebbles on a beach

as one we are, and shall always be-

 

Hum that melody, sing me to sleep

Whisper my name and your heart I shall keep

While brushing stray hairs from my eye, down my cheek

watching my eyes flutter as I drift off into the deep.

Imagery --- detailed --- this just rivets with the words...the story of this verse...I like how you can keep me in just long enough --- until the ending meets my senses...I'll have to have at more of you reads in a bit...again...those I read today...put forth much depth and fluidity in your work...

To be fair, I've not been sung to sleep so my relation to this is more to daydreams than reality.

Still a wonderful sentiment that I could see myself doing for someone should I get into a serious relationship in the future. Not that it might not happen, but frankly I'm not looking really.

A beautiful thing that one can do for another because they mean that much as to risk being the fool (looks to see that his kindred is not glaring at him for using that four letter word) to see them smile and breath in hushed tones.

Keep this up - I like these slices of joy you paint.

Thank you so much. I was kinda tearing up myself writing this for him (my fiance) And although months have passed since I first wrote it I feel the same way, that eternal love that grows in the simplest of moments. I treasure every moment with that man. He is truly my everything.

Aww well your so lucky Im glad to hear it and a bit jealous too lol Ive never had any luck in love most likely why Im still at virgin at 33 Anyway
this poem made me think of my mamaw and how she tells me the story of how she meet papaw long story short he came home from the war went to see his cousin who worked at the suitcase factory and saw my mamaw and he walked up to her laid her back in his arms and kissed her, the next day they were married ... they were together for over 50 years till he passed away in here arms. Its beautiful and sad all at the same time. words of wisdom mamaw often tells me "Never go to bed mad and always say I love you and when things get tough and they will dont rush to end it True love is a b***h thats worth the pain because nothing good ever comes easy

I agree and those are words I often live by. Nothing good ever comes easy. My fiance and I have had an armload of obstacles we had to go through and at times it seemed more like a gauntlet. We survived a deployment, survived for almost two years in a long distance relationship (I'm in Michigan, he's in Texas) and it will be quite some time before we are able to tie the knot. But he's worth it....every minute every second. I've known him since high school. He was and is my best friend in the world. Yours will come someday, he kinda snuck up on me. I thought that ship had sailed in high school. But I was blessed with a second chance to be with him. Not letting him go either.
