Reading Expedition

Reading Expedition

A Poem by Lisa Armstrong

A circuitous path winds down through time
Entering forbidden doors,
Hidden in a Forgotten Garden.
My guide, a fiendish, cat who grins --
Riddles the story through war torn fields.
Intrigue stalks royal halls
While vampires seek release from their cruel half life.
Specters skip through circus tents,
While time travelers challenge Einstein's theory.
Colors drape The Book Thief's deeds
And murder rules in Dante's hell.
Twisted worlds drop into
The Well of Lost Plots
Where Thursday Next fights
The book worm's destructive hunger.
Something Wicked precedes
The Night Circus' train
Along tracks which lead inevitably towards
Auschwitz's infamous Gate.
Frankenstein's monster dines
At Nimo's submerged table,
Where Plato presents The Republic
To Atlantis' lost shores.
All in a simple perusal
Of my library's shelves.
