The portrait of a cat

The portrait of a cat

A Poem by Cat Cheshire

velveteen ears of lust and wide taw eyes,
the beautiful nightmare of fish and mice;
as gracefully vanishing into the darkness as smoke
while leaving small, delicate footsteps behind -
a remembrance of a onetime light-o’-love to evoke:
the most capricious menace known to mankind.
glycerine tears of the autumn skies,
the haunting nightmare of foolish and wise;
as gracefully vanishing into the darkness as fume
while leaving small, delicate footsteps behind -
in remembrance of a light-o’-love, long lost in the gloom:
the most capricious menace known to mankind.

This was an amazing tapestry of woven words. The word choices and the structure are maticulously formed so that the the mind never looses the flowing images as one reads through the piece.
The overall theme invokes several things for me. The first is about the cat, and how they are mankinds mysterious friends, coming and going and loving as they wish, with no real care for those they effect. The other thought that came to mind was that the cat might be a metaphor for lost love. How love can be fleeting, there and gone in the turn of that cat's paw.

Fantastic ink!
