A Poem by karmic

The alcohol crept uncertain thoughts into his head
As the lassitude night forced him to bed
Even the warmth of his sheets condemned him to freeze
And the memory of her touch stimulated his senses like the most dulcet of ballads swimming through the breeze

He prayed for a coma, for it would be better than this
To be reunited with those vivacious eyes and that lurid kiss
He whispered dead sonnets as his perception escaped and dimmed
And his dreams carried him away with a bittersweet hymn

He awoke; and by his side she lays
His amorous reminder of better yesterdays
The pace of his heart left blisters as he fumbled with her name
Her smile flowed like the most invigorating rivers that sent him chills all the same

She laid vivid in the moonlight
In his world of black and white
The sheets curled with her toes
With expressions full of woes

He's face to face with his quintessence of memories
As their eyes clash like lightening and mourning symphonies
He breaks the silence with a whisper and recites
"You are the thoughts of my day and the wary of my nights

Oh love of mine, would it be such a crime?
If this moment became our forever, and we just froze here in time
These past months had been violent and volatile
The attendance of grief results from the absence of your smile"

He touched her skin; only to feel her warmth flee
He breathed her in, only find his lungs empty
Her lips slowly parted as she said
"I'm just a thought, a figment, a memory in your head

What once was, isn't real
For if we froze here in time how would you heal?
Life is brief and doesn't last
So don't spend it dwelling on a simple souvenir of your past

Keep me in your thoughts as comfort but never too close
For the difference between remedies and poisons are always the dose.
I'm afraid I can't be more than this."
She rolled on top of him and granted him a kiss

As her chestnut eyes changed to obsidian to coal
And the murky darkness swallowed them whole
He tried to speak her name, but left with a choke
For his dream was over and he had awoke.....

I really enjoyed this poem. To often are we looking back into the better days, wishing we could grasp them now. The most profound line to me is a,"For the difference between remedies and poisons are always the dose." That gave me goosebumps.
