Eggshell Elephant

Eggshell Elephant

A Poem by karmic

Just another pull of the preverbal doom
As I rub my glossy eyes and stumble to the bathroom
I see a blurry portrait made of glass and irony
Before I spill into the sink the better parts of me

Stranded with a voice that says I have to leave this place
Dig your teeth into yourself; you'll find it has no taste
I wince at the mirror as smoke caress my eye
Billows to the ceiling until it forms a burning sky

Oh treacherous demon
That I dare to believe in
That torments and paralyzes without reason
Will you share in a glass? A cheer for self treason?

I confess; I do not seek what I believe to be lost
Yes. I believe or at least I perceive, that everything has a cost
As I raise my glass to my reflection; a toast to who I' am tonight
Promptly fix my crooked mask before I lose my sight

I hear the growl of prowling wolves scratching at the door
With the flickering of embers showering the floor
I've already forgot who I was the night before
And the voice has gone silent. To speak nevermore
