I Dreamed Of You Last Night

I Dreamed Of You Last Night

A Poem by Kate Franta
"

Gift for an old friend.

"
I dreamed of you again last night while sleeping still--
old Morpheus teases me more than you know.
As moonlight dripped onto my windowsill,
You kissed my neck and would not let me go.
Is there a god on earth I could invoke
Or with my loving thoughts perform a rite?
For then a morning dried the moonlight and I woke
to engine roars and coffee grounds and light.
What awful pain to forge my love and sleep,
Yet by two thousand miles separate
Instead of granting me your hand to keep,
I dream I wake I cry I sigh I wait
But this lonely path leads to your smiling face
So let me fall into the night's embrace.

Kate, this was wonderfully tender, and soft.

You have such a loving heart.
