Beautiful Maple Girl

Beautiful Maple Girl

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

One last visit as fall departs into coming winter.

"
My beautiful maple girl, you are weeping.  Tears descending; softest
touch of lifting breeze, sends  your tears falling-falling. You know  how
to let go of the past. I remember summers brilliance and every busy
long day, working my gardens.

You are the message of extended autumn, "rest, contemplate, and
give yourself to introspection." Shorter-shorter; hours, minutes, days, even
the deep jewel tones within bough's  remaining deep stained leaves say
"contain you precious thoughts and dream."

The window pane will be my lens as I sit by fire's hearth comforting.
Basking within as the cool mist without spreads itself, slowly thoroughly, briskly.

Precious moisture, sponging, grasses recently dry as paper, now luscious -verdant.
To lie in it, but no; 'to wet, to cold! Late autumn my ear attends to your fading last
trills twinkling into my heart. You precede applying paint to last touches of this
magical season's portrait.

I agree with tabby, you're gifted. I love escpecially nature and environment poetry.
I also love the Maple trees. I have silver maples, one sugar maple, three or four Japanese maples (don't you just love how they look like reefer?) and I love this poem.

Please keep up the great work.

Hey Kathy,
I really enjoyed your little Maple girl. Your most welcome :)
I love the personification of "Maple Girl" . . . I have a similar sycamore tree that is the last hold-out before winter is fully upon us here! I love your descriptions of letting go, contrasting the hearth with the cool mist, & so many other ways to welcome winter (somewhat reluctantly as I always do!) Great job using this symbol to show us this recognizable transition!

Starzy,
Thanks so much.
You know what Kathy. There are no trees in my garden but in my street there are two rows - of different kinds. I love the way you've personified yours - it makes me think of them as rows of sentinels of sorts now, showing us humans how to deal with change. (Not my forte).
I don't think I'll ever look at them again in the same light.

Welcome Kathy. Happy New Year!
Lovely words, I feel the same way about my avocado tree, although it doesn't gift all the colours ... that line ... you know how to let go the past ... is my favourite ... nature, it's there, all around us, asking for nothing, and what do we do, ask of it so much ... nature always springs back, if only we give it a chance ...

Unbelievable, mesmerizing Kathy, it's very pleasing and I don't know what it is but there is something that speaks through your words, they speak of a beauty that is slowly passing away with the arrival of winter. I personally felt the uses of picturous words build the right feeling for the poem... Great work... It's glad to be back at your page...

Sincerely
Dhiman
