Horizon's Distance

Walking through a familiar hiking place where two sets of tracks merge out into a wooded area way beyond where I can see but that always catches my imagination.

 

Leading

Into

Horizon’s distance

 

Aspen grove

Is divided

By a V shaped path:

The joining of two

-Sets of railroad tracks.

 

Standing

At its point

My steps

Now touch

-This iron pathway.

 

This duet reminder

-Taken.

A beautiful offering

Of freedom

To experience

-The results of this life.

 

Into

-The varied shadows.

In spacious woods setting.

I ponder

How

These paths

Of life

Lead

Into

-Unexplored woods.

 

Mysterious future

You

Are like

The dark places

Of

-Undiscovered experiences.

Where

I must find

- My way each day.

Lead me

Holy god

 

For I know

You alone

Are

My habitation

And

Hiding place

Of

Peace

And

-Safety of heart.

Of course, whichever path you take you can make good or bad things from them, and even if you retraced your steps the other path would have changed, the horizon's light will have evolved. We all start on that great journey called life. We may meet people who influence us on that
journey. Like the way your poem sets this out.
We may carry the good book for guidance. We may even stray off course from that journey. But at some point, the journey comes back to yourself. Only then can you judge yourself.

Hi kathy. Reading this i realised that I read it a while ago and reviewed it in my head. As a poet it is hard not to take lifes lessons from nature and you have done it brilliantly here. I thought it had a feel of the pilgrims progress about it. It must be very comforting to have this belief in a God guiding your life.

You are so fun! Ive' read poets on WC before as well and then ended up reading the same poem again later.It happens. It's always nice to see people that bother, that take the time to read and alaso leave a review. The iceing on the cake for all of us to make a connection somehow. Yes I find incredible comfort in the nuances and loveliness with which everthing nature. It is like a painting, which the more it is examined the more new colors and emotion are discovered. It will never grow old or stale. I have great comfort in God, my creator.Your are so right.

Where do we find shelter and solace in this world. It is a place of dark and light, evil-good and is a challenging place. It is marred and ailing, broken and bleeding. We all somehow seem to sense we were made for something more. So many belief Y, religions, you name it. Jesus Christ- the Son of God is my Savior. I know nothing else. I think we writers have a habit of imagining extended scenarios based on a few clues. I love the way you've done that here & then it slowly shifts from observed paths to introspective paths, with a strong spiritual ending. The railroad track reference reminds me of a place I went backpacking often (Trinity Alps, Northern California) . . . with ancient mining tracks decaying into the trails that trace them & beyond, up into the craggy peaks & alpine lakes. To be covered somehow by a presence and power greater than our self is beyond my comprehension but still a known place of perception. We people are so complex and just get lost sometimes but as wordman says somehow are designed to try to find our way back.
