The Season Whispers

The Season Whispers

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Autumn is like a special time of rejoicing in the subtle.

The Season Whispers

Evergreens Herald

 Twilight rays relinquished.

Tawny crowned monarchs

 Stand majestic.

Enthroned Kings

Glow gold silken wash.

Scepter gives its signal

Autumn strolls away.

Maple leaves release

, dance to the ground.

They rustle to November

‘We await you.’

She will arrive

 Whispering to December.

Bare tree beauties,

 Cloaked in winter.

"Rejoicing in the subtle" . . . that's beautiful! We don't get a major show of autumn in California, so I tend to be more tuned in to the way the air feels . . . usually very dry, but when it becomes damp, you know it's autumn. Dampness in the air (even when it's perfectly sunny) piques the aromas that come from the chaparrel, especially a dry flower that wafts like maple syrup scent, filling my nostrils the first time I open the door every morning. See how your subtlety sparked me? I love "autumn strolls away" . . . & the way your poem depicts the passage of time from fall to winter (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I love the days of Fall dear Kathy. Cooler days, Halloween for the grandchildren and the days seem to be slower. I like the four seasons. Allow us to see nature be born and to die. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I agree dear Kathy and you are welcome. Have some fun and be safe my friend.
This is just amazing and breathtaking, wow. I really want this on like... my wall, or something lol. Autumn always makes me excited, but I don't know if I've ever heard fall captured so beautifully and accurately as I have in this poem. Your imagery is what makes this, and your words.

That is so very true! And it was my pleasure to read it!
The imagery alone makes this one worth reading. Almost every line conjures up a word picture in the mind. Beyond that, we have a remembrance of the natural seasonal cycles, which come and go very much without our bidding. Unspoken is the connection to our lives, the phases of which also come and go naturally. An altogether pleasant and profound piece.

I love autumn best of all, i amk sure the trees are different but the colours are the same in your country as in mine.
There is a comfortable softness about autumn, neither too vital nor too harsh ... a alovely time for reflection before the long sleep of winter

Kathy, it’s refreshing to read such a regal portrayal of autumn. You describe not an end of life but a subtle retreat, hibernation perhaps, that says to all.. nature is just resting its colors. This is a welcome whisper and good poetry. Love the paired photo, too.

You’re welcome, Kathy.
Lovely poem Kathy. Autumn is a special and beautiful time. I suppose for us it makes us think of the annual cycle of life. Then on a deeper level We can take it as a metaphor for the passage of our own lives.
You have a gift for expressing the positive in everything.
All the best.

This is a glorious vision of autumn's absolute joy. I do so love the season... the colors... leaves like spring flowers... the scent is mesmerizing... the chill air soothes the sun-burned summer soul. I appreciate you guiding us across every leaf... every passing life.

I think a disproportionate number of writers will be great big fans of autumn.

It's sort of our time. The world gets a bit more quiet, nature makes some of her most drastic changes, the air hangs heavy and thick and asks you to remember old feelings.

Winter will be a time for family, and feeling connected to a world of people more like yourself than you would normally stop to realize. But autumn is damned lonely.

Better write about it.
