Night Time Journeys

Night Time Journeys

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Life lived in dreams while our heads caress our pillows and we are cloaked in blankets and night darkness. Will we carry our dreams into day light?

"

Night time journeys

 Within night vision flight

Dreams are such a fascinating place.

Oh the tenderness and light!

For in our journeys of sleep

 Who will we meet?

We never know where we will go.

Lost times somehow made right

To come upon lost ones

May we all find rest for our feet.

Hearts are given a place to flow.

Past moments coalesce aright.

Dark to shadow mysterious face

Hope’s solution carries the kite.

Life color in shadow

Spirited to the heights.

My dreams are somewhat frustrating. Either they are nonsensical, or are lost within ten minutes after arising in the AM. My wife, on the other hand, enjoys productions that would make Cecil B. DeMille envious. I think she may be smoking something behind my back.

When I was a young child I had regular nightmares. The monsters in my dreams kept getting the upper hand. Then I came upon a solution in my dreams. I could imagine and deploy whatever superpower was required to defeat my dream demons and get some rest. I only had to face the fear in my dreams and fight it. This may seem like a small thing, but to a child, it was a revelation of liberty. Knowing that I had the power within me to conquer my fear was a huge confidence builder, both on a subconscious and on a waking level.

Serene Star,
I appreciate that. Thank you so much!

I learn to set-up dreams with meditation. Years ago, my worst days allowed me to learn to meditate. I believe dreams are the set-up to our life. In dreams, we can see things to come and the things that are gone. Dear Kathy, I enjoyed your words and your thoughts.

You are welcome dear Kathy.
Ohhh, Kathy 🌿

There are too many uncountably endless nighttime journeys to even recall, must-less remember and comment on them all.
Ya know, Dear, it is said, by wiser minds than my own, that dreams both free and bind us, both enthrall and frighten us, both teach and steal our good sense, and leave us warm or cold … but, I don't think it's possible to recount or define everything dreams do to, with, and for us.

One thing I do know, is that you are one of the most wondrously beautiful writers, with a heart bigger than Texas, and what a gorgeously rendered poem this truly is, filled with imagery and metaphor many would give their left arm to be able to express.
Most excellent picture and title, too.

Thank you, ever-so gratefully and true, Dear Lady-Poet, just for being You! ⁓ Richard 🍃

I dream of writing fairly often it is creepy when I remember it upon waking:/ rarely do I remember visual dreams it seems most of mine are contextual in nature in dialogues sometimes in images:( i must be crazy:) LOL but nightmares are always visual and vivid when i get them they are very much a repeat of wretched past experience and fears. I like the inquisitive quality of your poem

Wow you have captured the night world of dreams and sleep in a wonderful way here , indeed like you creatively ponder, who shall we meet in dreams, we never know, it could be a long lost friend or a grandfather long passed on. Kudos for this awesome poem.

Without our logic filter we normally use in our waking life, that may restrict our creativity; our thoughts and ideas have no boundaries when we’re sleeping. I found the soft flowing stanza structure and the calming wordplay a delightful read my friend - a great share... bless... :-)

well Kathy ... those are the good ones ;) i love dreaming ... i think they are all meaningful in some way or other .. tho i do not tend to try and understand them .. i am not sure they are meant so much to make some kind of sense as to accomplish something in our lives on the dream plane ... enjoyed your poem ...and i appreciate your Author's Note ... inviting our thoughts even further .. coming upon lost ones ...i think of my Ma and Da right off ... always such a comfort and joy when they appear in me dreams ... very special to have them back for those dream moments .. your a corker young lady .. thanks for your poem!

An amazing title and poem. Dreams are the living proof of our awakened mind, the lively reenacting of our daily grind and magical mirror for the mortal kind. Every sentence is full of the truth about this great phenomenon that baffled scientists, religious people and laymen. May your dreams come true in poetry and in other fields.
