You Came Back

You Came Back

A Poem by Kaitlyn Boehm
"

This poem is not about the struggle to find true, but maintain and keep it when you finally find it.

"

I saw you in the morning

Your status of a Lord

But I was but a peasant

So I couldn't speak a word

I loved the way you looked at me

And stopped me in my stride

You told me I was beautiful

My heart was fast inside

They hid until the stars were bright

They forced you quick away

I thought that you had vanished

Until I saw you the next day

They had you on a pedestal

A decree of blood to draw

You were praying very softly

For forgiveness from the law

You stood bravely as you saw me

And told me not to cry

That's the day I swore I love you

The day I watched you die

Two years went by so quickly

I missed you more and more

Until the day I met you

Once again right at my door

That was the day I realized

That God sent you back to me

I knew that it was final

True love was meant to be

That was until he met you

And tried to start a fight

He angered you with words of hate

You took off in the night

He followed in your footsteps

And laughed upon my looks

I was nothing like a princess

To this nasty crook

You told him to surrender

He drew blood from your side

That's the day I swore I love you

The day I watched you die

The days were all a struggle

I never broke my frown

Until the day I met you

On the path away from town

Your eyes were lit by moonlight

Our hearts were meant to be

I thanked the heavens softly

God sent you back to me

That was until she met you

And wished to take your hand

You said that you were taken

By the fairest in the land

She waited for your exit

And cried from where you stood

If she couldn't have you

No other woman would

She made a hidden poison

And met you the next day

You drank to fame and fortune

She watched you slip away

I entered when you'd fallen

We kissed our last goodbye

That's the day I swore I loved you

The day I watched you die

I waited for your knocking

Like how its always been

God knew that I was faithful

So he sent you back again

I wished to always hold you

In my arms through everyday

I didn't want your death again

I wanted you to stay

We were careful when we traveled

You never walked alone

You stayed away from war and hate

We always ate at home

Until the day he came along

To finally do you in

I couldn't bare to part with you

And let the devil win

Before he shot you in the heart

I blocked the blow for you

I couldn't watch you die again

And know our love was through

You're alive because I saved you

We kissed our last goodbye

That was the day you swore you loved me

The day you watched me die

This poem is beautiful! I think that your underlying theme is that no matter what, you should never, ever let love slip away. The way you write is so serene, and I love the flow of this poem, even as it tells a deeper story. I sense through your writing that you have an amazing sense of insight to write your poems with.
