Beautiful Distraction

Beautiful Distraction

A Poem by Kiera Scanlon

You caught me off guard,
You took me by surprise,
The touch of your hand,
That sparkle in your eye.

Lying in your arms,
We are the perfect match,
The distance is discouraging,
Yet I am still so attached.

Your breath on my neck,
The smell of your hair,
The naughtiness in your smile,
That strength in your stare.
Your warmth, your touch,
All worries subside,
As your sweet lips kiss mine,
Oh, that feeling inside.

And when I look into your eyes,
I see pure beauty with no disguise.

I liked the title and yet the reflective voice is apparent in the lines...as if you're saying these words in full array...I would edit down certain areas:

You caught me off guard,
You took me by surprise,
The touch of your hand,
That sparkle in your eye.

Lying in your arms,
We are the perfect match,
The distance is discouraging,
Yet still I am still so attached.

Your breath on my neck,
The smell of your hair,
The naughtiness in your smile,
That strength in your stare.

Your warmth, your touch,
All worries subside,
As your sweet lips kiss mine,
Oh, that feeling inside.

And when I look into your eyes,
I see pure beauty with no disguise.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You caught me off guard,
Took me by surprise,
Touch of your hand,
Sparkle in your eye.

Lying in your arms,
We are a perfect match,
Distance is discouraging,
I am still so attached.

Your breath on my neck,
Smell of your hair,
Naughtiness in your smile,
Strength in your stare.

Your warmth and touch,
All worries subside,
As your sweet lips kiss mine,
Oh, that feeling inside.

And when I look into your eyes,
I see pure beauty with no disguise.

Of course --- this is just impo...do what makes you feel --- you...

Passionate indeed and beautiful. It reminds me of my own poems but your voice is unique.

Indeed, this is a beautiful distraction within the universe of rhyme studded free verse. Physical adulation is an enduring preoccupation. The sense of taste, smell, sight, and touch is sometimes all too much.

beautiful and passionate! great poem

Beautifully said, the only thing that really confuses me is you talk about distance, then suddenly they are right there being near with nothing in between. I'm not saying to change it, but there is just something about it that just messes with my mind. But over all I love it, I can really feel the love in this and can relate it to my current relationship. So as always keep up the great work.

Nice title. I think it matches the first stanza especially, since "you caught me off guard"
Overall this poem itself was a "beautiful distraction."
But more important than that was that the lover wasn't just a distraction. Like the poem, everything starts out as a beautiful distraction and develops into "pure beauty with no disguise."
