A Poem by ken burke

They say pain is just weakness leaving the body,
They say you should just let it flow
But how do you deal with the pain,
When everything you believe in is let go

You build a foundation,
You give it all you’ve got
But then one day you wake up,
You’re crumbling from the top.

The pain, the rage,
It builds and becomes this dangerous blend.
Your entire life has fallen apart,
You’ve been told this is the end.

You’ve dedicated years and years,
You’ve given it to just one person.
How do you deal with it all,
Or do you let it just worsen.

Do you allow yourself to fall,
Do you allow the darkness to consume you.
Do you try to escape it,
Or do just let yourself fade from view.

You can’t control your thoughts,
You have no control over your feelings.
How do you expect to be okay,
When any thought of happiness just seems unappealing.

When every day seems like a nightmare,
Everyday is a living hell.
You try to smile and pretend it’s okay,
But deep down you know you’re alone in this deep dark cell.

You look forward to hope,
You look forward to bright blue skies.
But only you know the pain and the agony,
That lies behind these blue eyes.
