Man on the Moon

Man on the Moon

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

My young, brash and lachrymose eyes

Rose on high to the sky

Behold; the mentor

Rills, rays, wrinkles

Of an aging soul

Reality’s residual craters

Memories frozen over

Distant dreams within

The once-was river

He’d speak once, twice

But seldom consider

How or why the sun capsized the horizon…

Children of twilight

Live but briefly

Shadows of grief litter his canvas

Tomorrow the reprise resumes

Footprints invisible

Upon the snowy earth he loved

The old man waits

Never breaks with all his strength

Or callouses…
