My Dear Dad.

My Dear Dad.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

Losing ones parent rips at your very essence, I will miss you.

"

A mere glimpse in time we had here with us,

Fleeting and beautiful your soul now soars,

Pain claimed the body and shackled the mind,

Tears fall heavy in streams of sobs and roars.

Hero doesn’t cover my love towards you,

In kisses and tender words you’re rearing,

No fear was shown or given in scolding,

My boy you boomed out to any of hearing.

Country man as always mucked and happy,

Fields of crops looked upon again and forever,

Fish swam away when reels graced your hands,

Ah how friends laughed in jokes so clever.

I’ll miss you there is no mistake in that,

However angels keep you now so I can’t be mad,

A life so celebrated now lives within us all,

For me I’ve lost you, be happy, my dear Dad.

As I sit here and try to write something apt, words fail me...They do indeed. Shivers down my spine persist... A truly great tribute to an obviously much loved Dad.....It seems we have something else in common my friend.....................All Good Things, my fine literary friend......N

I know from my own experience how emotionally draining it is to write this. Perhaps the easy option is to bury this inevitable but shattering milestone in your life. It can be very painful as most of us will have regrets, things left unsaid that will gnaw away. I've written a flight of imagination where me, my father and grandfather meet on top of a hill, all of an age, and talk about significant events. (The beacon hill) I have no shame in admitting there are a few tear stains on the 'laptop'.
Well done, Thomas, for sharing this very personal piece.
