A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A working that tells the story of Irish Mothers during a time of obsolete danger.

"
As black flags ruffled,
And Mother's prayed,
One hundred candles were lit,
With his life he payed.

Don't let another one die,
My son is not a criminal,
A prisoner of war,
Their life's all terminal.

Two county's of ownership,
Both religions unstable,
Hundreds have died now,
The people incapable.

Their walls full of blood,
Slop out those dirt pans,
The prison couldn't care less,
God bless sweet Bobby Sands.

I am reading this because I wrote a dated one too..I know this one's a tribute to someone who gave his life away, to make others lives more meaningful..there's agony in this poem, a tribute to the man's effort, his silent terminal endeavor which gets forgotten in the ebbs of time and events. I am glad at its existence and relevance, 20 years down the line :-)

A sad time for Ireland. I remember watching the T.V and hoping for peace and safety for Ireland. Hate and violence never bring happiness to no-one. But in a world with leaders who use the strength of wealth. Freedom is hard to find. I read the poem a second time. We need to remember the people who stood strong for us.

Interesting write. I have never heard of him until now, he died the year after I was born. It's sad that he had to die that way, but he felt compelled to do it and that's saying something. There are some people born with the brass to take down an empire and he had them. A fitting tribute, Thomas.

A sad statement on the cruel toll of war, both for the enlisted and for their families!
