A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A follow up on my poem "The Game of War"

"
The soaring on high,

The crashing out loud,

The scream of pain,

The screams of now,

The flesh that was ripped,

The lives that were taken,

Some have forgot,
None have forsaken.

Their ARE existence pausing moments... and the sheer barbarity of them IS mind disparaging. Our media brings everything to the table AS it happens and thereafter bombards the captive audience until we become numb to the events and their replays. A strong write Tom.

You said a lot my friend. I try to write of positive things. Lately hard to do. I remember my father a Vietnam and Korean war veterans with tears in his eyes when I left for war. I hope I won't have to do for Grandchildren. Thank you for your powerful words.

Thank you Chris.
They called an assembly on base that day and told us what had happened. When the base commander himself took the podium we knew it was big stuff. When he made the announcement the murmuring from the Marines was almost deafening. It was a weird mixture of anxiety, fury and excitement. We knew we were going to be deployed, and soon. My buddy Kuala said "Holy s**t it's on." It was on alright. It was the start of the greatest adventure of my life.

Gut wrenching pain written in eight lines :
nothing more to say

I'm often amazed at how quickly people forget -- or should I say, choose not to remember? Hopefully, writers such as yourself will keep the torch afire -- just as fire belongs in torches, not in buildings. Similarly, we are reminded that screams of pain and ripping of flesh are best kept at the tip of an author's pen, rather than in real-life buildings. Superb little poem here! Thanx for the reminder :)
