Robes.

Robes.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

My thoughts after reading "The Rites" by Matt Baglio

"

The holy men in their black robes,

Spouting innate ramblings of peace and love,

Honour thy neighbours and families,

As long as you pray to the dove.

Take his body and blood,

Cleanse your soul and mind,

Glancing at the altars helpers,

Feeling that sick little grind.

Preaching solidly about poverty the virtue,

Helping others in defiance of ones all,

Black robes living in their ivory towers,

Gorging on decadence off the eager fall.

A solid union in a powerful city,

Closed ranks under a voted leader,

Silent side glances and rumours,

Empire splits by this very reader.

I may like this more because I agree with everything you have said, however I have never read "The Rites" by Matt Baglio, and I have no way to know how it reflects to that work. But I love this piece and it's honesty to the world that you see about these 'holy' men.

this reminds me somewhat of "the name of the rose"

the closed ranks...thinking about things going on in the catholic church, the abuse and how that was secreted, priests moved etc.

funny about the poverty thing...why do priests usually drive lincolns and cadillacs...and why did jimmy swaggert complain that he needed money to keep his ministry going yet he had two 2 million dollar homes.

this is dark, but necessary.

Wow, man! This is absolutely great. It is excellent as a poem and as an idea. I liked the concept. I can relate to it. I found it aggressively true! Very good job...

Thanks you!
1, Never regret asking someone to be honest, this is mainly the caliculation of truth oppose to honesty, with that said.

The first string of music to come to mind when reading this was
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa-P3m0TNyk&feature=colike

This reminded me of the old Latin Mass, the description almost made me think Latin. When the intention is to make the reader think, than you and I both know you did better than a longshot at the race track.

cheers.

Honestly Thomas, you're a bit dark for me, but that's not a knock in any sense. I think my stuff is probably out of date for most of today's readers. You have an unusual skill at both rhyme and rhythm, and you display them well in all of your writings. You have rare talent.

I appreciate how well this was written, and the great imagery, but i cant say i agree with this because the "Holy Men" i know are noble, honest, loving, wonderful and inspiring... i am not saying there haven't been some out there... just that i cant relate... but good poem.
