Sunset Memories

Sunset Memories

A Poem by Mike Carson

In the reddish yellow glow

Of sunset stands

The man whose dreams were once

So young…

He views a world

So far removed

From his childhood horse and buggy days

His father found his simple dream

Gentle country doctor in Manchester, Tennessee

His son is happy living

Someone else’s dream

And it is very easy to tell

That his grandson has lost himself

~

The next generation

He will never know

And would never understand

And although it would seem

He has failed his task

To leave his name renowned

Knowing death will soon

Come calling

He drinks another cup of coffee

And smokes a cigarette

Under the tree with his grandson

The bond is absolute...

They watch the sun go down
