A Chapter by Carter Meyer
"

The end draws near.

"

I grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the closet next to our rehabilitation room.

“You need to tell me what’s wrong,” I snarled, “because I don’t know what else to do. Do you want me to leave? Is that what you want? I’ll leave if that’s what it takes.”

Her face grew red and a single tear escaped from her left eye.

“I’m scared,” she whispered.

“Of what?”

“Of being left behind.”

I pulled her close to me. I let her cry. I held her while she shook.

This is such sweet sorrow. The writer/main character is a caring, courageous person no doubt.

A strong chapter. You create a lot of emotion and tension in so few words. I like the ending. “Of being left behind.”. A excellent chapter.
