Snapshots

Snapshots

A Poem by GoldenOne

I bet you didn't know I see things
little pictures in my head of a road not taken.
(Premonitions, maybe--
only the good ones never come true)
Like you and me in a two story colonial
standing in the dimly lit doorway of our kid's room
whispering about how lucky we are.
Oh, here's the one of me and you at your sister's wedding
dancing, smiling nervously and furtively
ditching the reception to try out our brand new kisses.
My favorite one is just of us reading on the couch,
surrounded by take out cartons and cheap furniture
and a feeling of belonging.
They are just pictures, though
and laughable really.
As silly as a 7th grade photo booth shot (you treasured)
seems when you find it packing for college.
It doesn't mean anything, because we all learn eventually
that time snips and clips the heartstrings from the cardstock.
One day these little snap shots will be something
to pick up with a chuckle and a
"My how things change..."

...
. extremely detailed and extremely poetic ... personally, is see both elements in snapshots ... those that change ... and those that stay the same ... the latter are fewer ... no doubt ...

Good stuff. I sometimes hate how the flow of time changes each and every one of us.
