The Power of Words

The Power of Words

A Story by Kaitlyn

Here's something for authors to keep in mind :)

"

Words are a very powerful thing.

It is words that invoke such deep passions as love within our very hearts and souls, words that move men to draw to arms and stand their grounds in the blood-soaked fields of war, words that ignite the blaze within the minds of the people that move them to question what is right and what is wrong. It is words that have shaped us, words that define us, and words that will be left of us when, in generations to come, not one friend of ours is alive to tell our stories.

I have read so many peoples’ work where they speak so passionately about something, and, either at the beginning or end of their work, they say that it doesn’t matter; that they will never be able to change anything. That what they write is unimportant.

What these people fail to acknowledge is that their words convey ideas; that ideas provoke feelings; that feelings can provoke action; and that action has changed the course of history before, and will change it again, and again, and again.

As an author, if you write passionately about something, then know that your words are not unimportant. Your words are your ideas, your passions, scrawled out so that others can see them. Words that have moved men to tears, moved thousands to action, toppled kingdoms and raised empires all started this way.

Words are a very powerful thing. They are what remain of you when you and everyone that you’ve known are gone from this world. Do not write your passions and your ideas under the premise that they don’t matter. Write them with the knowledge that the ideas that have changed the course of history began with words, spoken or written, with passion and conviction, never with the tagline ‘but it doesn’t matter’.

Very aptly put, I cannot say it better than that. You have hit home with your short, poignant piece.

But to spice it up, I personally would add the downside of words ;)
For instance, the words of lovers spoken, sometimes ended up as naught but empty air by the time they broke up. Some people are great in speech but never in action. It's the way you carry your words. Some words, spoken by great men, echo through the centuries, some words spoken by normal laymen will fade as time pass. Something like that. It makes your story more rounded and argument-proof ;)

I hope this helps :)
