Valley Girl

Valley Girl

A Poem by kayla
"

very random poem about my valley girl accent brought about by a prompt

"

When I was young and I grew up,

I grew up in "The Valley",

land of "Clueless" and "Omigawd, like, no waaay"

and the vernacular grew upon me.

I remember the first time I said, "Yaa",

and my mom asked if a Swedish chick lived here,

and that line has followed me afterwards

for what seems like years and years.

I've been told that I say, "like", way too much,

that I sound like a "valley girl",

but I've tried to change the way that I talk,

but always, to no avail.

So I've given up on expressing myself differently,

I say, "Yaa" and "Omigod" and "like",

and I've decided that if people can't tolerate that

then tey can get out of my life <3

This is thematically different from most poems on this site. You already have that going for you. This might even make a good short story? FlashF? No? It's great. Really. Cute even. Thanks for the read!

I enjoyed reading this poem, even gave me a chuckle. It's always best to be your own person and not be what other want you to be or say what they want you to say. This was a good read. Keep it up!

We are what we learn from our surroundings, I find it fascinating that when I am around others who have an accent I find myself using said accent myself if over a prolonged period of time. I still say omigawd :) I like your voice and spunk.
