X-Men

X-Men

A Poem by Kristin Lee
"

Bad news makes us or breaks us...its all about perspective.

"

The black and white letter

Contained big, bold words

Written by a foreign tongue

Plagued by the absence of emotion.

Cellular mutation

Discovered under the slides;

Scientific facts couldn’t stem the shock

Radiating from each callous syllable.

Knowing is not always a blessing

These mutations incited fear

“Pre-cancerous” is not a word that offers hope

It only slams the door on a guinea pigs cage.

The bright and beautiful light

That serves as beacon

As I tread through…

X-Men have nothing on me.

First, let me say that I am sending you all the positive vibes I can muster. Aside from that, this was beautifully written...the idea of mutations being both positive and negative. If you take the X-men, for instance, some were happy with their mutations, while others felt as though they were a death sentence, take "Rouge" for example--she couldn't touch anything without killing it, but it turns out that her power actually saved lives in the end. It is all perception, and you have shown this beautifully. :)

X ray men tell us nothing. Cancer is just one more way to die and if it comes for us we will know until then we should enjoy the moment as we all know those it has taken!

I like the message of this poem and it is so relevant in our daily lives when we hear about our sickness or others whether family or friends and we try to process the info to chart a new direction or path. Some fall to despair or anxiety and can't handle it. Like you have said it is all in our perception...A great write...:)

Thanks Sami, I appreciate that. Charting a new path is quite apt.

You are right ...You are welcome...:)
Knowing is not always a blessing. i may know of something tragic but have no need for the details, knowing the loss is enough. I like this one from you Kristen. You speak of this at the cellular level which could speak to the corporeal or the emotional. I like the versatility of this.
