Under The Rubble

Under The Rubble

A Poem by Kristin Lee

Under the rubble

My hands tremble

Not with fear

But anger

And the weight

Of overwhelming sorrow

People pretend to love

They use the word like a fork,

           -Disposable;

Seeking only to destroy

Knowing not what it means

To be human

To forgive

I was a fool

For needing their acceptance,

A thing that would never come;

Actions have provided light

They’d gladly leave me here to die

If it meant that they could shine

But I wasn’t born to cower in the shadows of false Gods

I was born to rise!

To stand firm upon my morals

My compass always true

I'm no stranger to darkness

Pain is my inevitable companion

Like sparks from a fire

It is able to kill

Or…

Propel me towards my greater purpose

Make no mistake

From under the wreckage I will surface

To revel in the light of day

My conscience clean

My heart pure

A force to reckon with

            - Disposable no more

Great shining phoenix rising up from the ashes. A very heartfelt and inspirational piece Kristin, many will identify with the voice you have given this one. Again it is good to hear from you and see that you succeed in creating good poetry.

Great "moral" to this story... I love the idea of "pretending to love" and people using love as a "disposable fork"--very stark imagery. I'm always left with a deeper understanding of life, it seems, when I read your work. You have a talent for getting your message across with grace and strength. Nicely done!

I loved the message in this one Kristin - Another amazing write from you. You always write the truth in your writes, and for the reader that makes a huge impact when I'm reading it.

There is great strength beneath the rubble. I believe our moral compasses is one of the most important tools that we carry. A poem of strength and perseverance.

Knocked down, but not out... a strong statement of fortitude, Kristin!

Very cool and extremely uplifting is the message you present today Kristin. So much "positive" lives and breathes within these words.
