Goodbye Innocence

Goodbye Innocence

A Poem by Kristen Grace

There is no moon tonight.

Only stars hidden by the city lights

Children cry about their broken bones,

Deep within them are empty souls.

And they all cry,

For what nobody knows.

The angels weep with them

Soaking the sawdust beneath their feet.

Everything used to be so pretty,

Or so it seemed.

As the children grew

The breaks never completely healed,

They would have been beautiful fruit,

Too bad they were too quickly peeled

Their flesh ripped from their bones,

In silence you can hear their moans.

Salt is thrown from every hand

To soak the wounds,

From each others pain they fed.

In misery they hit the ground

And make the sawdust red.

We all grew up too soon,

Now innocence is officially dead.

The seasons of life often burn scars into our souls.....one of them, the loss of innocence.....

Great poetry!

Yes, the stars are always there, hidden from our view. It only feels like yesterday that I was running around chasing a ball like a demon, now has a feel of cruelty about it, forcing us into situations we'd rather not be in, when all we want to do is play and be that kid again.
Very well written and thought provoking piece. Thank you for sharing this.
