I Could not See

This is a collage of some sentences that I read in 'The Story of my Life' by Helen Keller. These sentences caught my soul, and heart, so I thought of bringing them together under one poem.

I could not see the great cotton fields, 

The hills and woods, and the crowds of laughing girls

I could not see the beautiful Tennessee River

I could not see, for seeing is not an eye

But a word-painting of my own
