Invisible She

Invisible She

A Poem by Nautili

She is here, then gone.

She floats upon a current of air,

looking unsuccesfully for a place to land.

Her breezy fragrance fills the room,

lingering softly after her departure.

She feels detached and alone.

She wonders if she will ever find a home.

It feels to her as though she is invisible,

no super power to be envied here,

but a continual curse.

Superficial eyes that scan,

and then discount her

as too ordinary

to be noticed or admired.

Yet how extraordinary is

this girl.

My longing is for her to see this-

her beauty, her uniqueness, her wit, her strength.

May she see who she is.

(The lines becoming slowly visible

as they form before her

golden doe eyes,

colors of springtime splashing

in her soul's most sacred space.)

Nautili
I wrote this with my daughter in mind, but it is for all women that overlook their own unique wonder and beauty. By the way, the picture used is of my daughter. She is a beauty.

The opening stanza is very strong and gives an immediate unique feel of the character you are describing. The opening line reminds me a little little bit of She's Not There by Santana, if you know it, it is going back a bit mind!! I like the way you relate to your daughters beauty and her so say invisibility, she will become much more visible as you put it as she becomes aware of it.

Sometimes the most beautiful, and wonderful women are just... overlooked.

And it's just not fair.

Wonderful loving tribute & a reminder, after all, that we're all invisible. Even the over-adulation lavished on a celebrity barely scratches the surface of the invisible soul within. Reminds me too, that a recent song of mine's entitled "Invisible."

"(The lines becoming slowly visible/as they form before her/golden doe eyes,/colors of springtime splashing/in her soul's most sacred space.)"

Gorgeous closing lines, & perfect accompanying image.

Thank you.....you are right, so much lies beneath the surface, like the ocean's depths.
My first read of your work. Your daughter is so lucky to have a mother that does not envy her youth and beauty. You must be a strong and confident woman to write this and to show your child just how "sacred" her soul is.
Glad I read this.

Tenderheartedness from a mom, how potent and inspiring for the one with so much to face.

It's a future riddled with uncertainty and a steady hand means much.

Wonderfully written...

I resort to a book of proverb to find something to review your magnificent work which has to its credit about 500 views and 50 views apart from being shelved in seven libraries.
Your poem has proved wrong the proverb,"out of sight, out of mind"
Your daughter is more visible now than ever.
Her beauty has been enhanced many folds than it existed before.
I feel glad that you can smile like an angel and can equally value the beauty of all women as that of your beloved daughter.

You are always welcome,my friend.
I really like this! The desolation is heartbreaking however the sheer beauty of the work more than makes up for it! The rythme was delightful and alowwed for easy reading. Overall the entire poem was deliciously lovely! :-)

It is sad that people are so superficial in measuring someones worth and that we as a society lay down such narrow ideas of 'normal'. I have three daughters - all completely different in every possible way. You captured all this so well - I'm sure your daughter will find her place - I felt the same until at 23 I met my husband and never looked back. Stunning picture of a stunning young woman :)
