floating

floating

A Poem by Carmen

i inhale the salty air
feel the grit of golden sand between my toes
as i run faster and faster
down the shore line

my footprints deep in the sand behind me
the waves crashing violently at my feet
they slam into the ground
at the pace of my heartbeat

i am almost soaring
but i slow down at a curve
to make my final leap
and i'm soaring, slowly gliding up

floating
leaving my worries on the ground behind me
i'm gone now; i'm done
i'm on to new and better things

i get higher and higher
and the wind blows me up and down
around and around
i am like a red silk ribbon

all stretched out
floating in the breeze
carefree
not stopping for anything

i am drifting
through the soft wisps of clouds
towards the orange and red sunset
always chasing it; i'll never have to end the day
