Poison's Love

Poison's Love

A Poem by Tai Ryens
"

How I wished I could perfect the brew, but I couldn't . . .

"

Such delightful poison you were;

a deadly brew that wilted roses

by a whiff of your scent,

inflicted even more destruction

upon the mistakes of a soul,

my soul, deprived of love

longing for your touch:

for I believed you would

corrode evil with a caress,

and indeed I did

melt away while the warmth

of your taste

cleansed my throat.

Oh, how I craved you

every wretched night after

they made me throw you away,

for I felt your acidic smile

now held the cyanide of my

own dear brew,

a batch I left untended,

bouncing around in your stomach;

felt that killer smile

dissolve, submit to a venom

more potent:

mine.

How I wished I could

perfect the brew, but I couldn't:

they took me away, you see!

They failed to realize

even poison has a half-life,

even poison has an expiration date

and you were far past yours:

I longed once more for your burning

touch, to make you deadly once more

and not mistake you for salvation,

and overdose

                like I did, then.

Thank you, Anne Timmins.
Wow, such wonderful imagery you used in this and I loved the metaphor of poison that you used. It could symbolize what a wonderful, yet destructive relationship you might have with a person or certain thing. As I read, I pictured the poison being alcohol and how often it tricks people, making it fall in love with it and getting them hooked, craving the poison and "burning touch". Such a strong meaning this piece held and stuck me.

Ahhh, I'm flattered. Thank you. Nice to hear from you again, Jasmine.
Surely he is a wicked wizard, obsessed with his own concoction, he is bound to have a croaky, creepy voice, a short temper, an irritable, cantankerous manner, and a fierce heart, I much enjoyed.

Not wicked, just broken. Thank you!
This, for some reason, makes me picture a mad scientist who cooked up poisons and potions in his lab in the basement and was found out and taken to a mental hospital where he writes this poem, or just that line, "How I wished I could perfect the brew, but I couldn't!"
Well done! ^^

Mm, I was nodding towards a metaphor, but literal interpretations satisfy me just as well. Thank yo.. read more

xD I was pretty sure it was metaphorical but my mind was somewhere else. No problem, by the way.
Ah... Love, desire and the apocalypse. My boy is BACK! No one on this site pulls emotion and imagery together quite like you do Tai. Another Tai masterpiece. Outstanding work sir!
