Ultimate Salvation

Ultimate Salvation

A Poem by Laura S.

Not too long ago have I been trying to formulate a recipe

That’ll provide you as well as myself a little bit of peace within ourselves

A recipe that’ll allow us to get a better hold of our feelings and emotions

That’ll protect our heart from any deceptions

Or disappointments

As to make our heart invulnerable to pain

 And suffering

One that’ll unleash the feelings we have toward another

When things take an unexpected turn

As to make our heart invulnerable to pain

And suffering

Such a recipe that’ll make our heart’s voice agree with our mind’s

For the sake of not having second thoughts

When following our heart

Such a recipe that’ll prevent us from becoming exposed

Featherless and unprotected

To our biggest fears and weaknesses

One that’ll guide us through the maze of life

Without falling to temptation

To our biggest fears and weaknesses

One that’ll make us strong enough to endure

The cruel side of the world

To our disgrace,

There’s no such recipe

That could make us invulnerable

To the oppression

And the weight of the world

As far as my life goes,

I have learned that the moment we set lower expectations

On people and uncontrollable situations

Our heart has a lower risk

Of becoming scarred by the brutality of reality

Since expecting too much is the root to disappointment

Just like disappointment is the root to pain

And suffering

It is an endless cycle however;

Since expectation is tied to attachment

And attachment is tied to disappointment

One cannot simply walk through life unscarred

And without ever becoming attached to someone

Or something

Just like everything comes with a price,

Expectations do too

If we set no expectations,

There won’t be any room for betterment

And our lives won’t have much of a meaning

But at the same time we’ll be vulnerable,

Vulnerable to becoming hurt and scarred

And that is the price we have yet to pay

As we embark on our conquest

To achieve happiness

And fulfillment in our lives

We shall allay back the pain

Regardless of its aching sensation

And become confident enough

To get up on our feet

And find inner strength

Within our soul

Despite the shattered panorama

That our eyes have been exposed to

As we peek through the cracked lenses

That shows us nothing, nothing

But the relentless reality

It is in our shoes to find solace within ourselves

To find contentment in what evokes happiness and comfort

As this, and only this

Will become our ultimate salvation

For the preservation of our sanity

This would be classified as a psychological poem. A recipe for tranquility is just to do what's healthy for body and mind while surrendering to the fact that change-for-the-worse is inevitable as we get older and our health suffers. Just do your best and don't worry, for worry is futile. In this world, if one thing doesn't kill you something else will. It also helps to assume that everything shall be alright in that mysterious mystical world that greets us after we die since one assumption about this unknown is as good as any other. We must be positive. Where there's mystery, there's hope. Where there's hope, there's bliss.
