Familiarity

I sometimes wonder if you ever wrote songs 

about me the way I wrote about you.

If you ever felt the same way 

after the things we have been through. 

Did you see me in familiar things or random places?

The same way I saw you in picture frames and drive-thrus. 

Till this day I’m still trying to forget you. 

But then I smell a scent from a passing stranger 

with the same cologne as yours 

and I knew I still wasn't over you.

Overall, this is strong writing with purpose & vision, everything stated convincingly, with details & imagery to show instead of tell. There's a tiny bit of the "ordinary" about your writing, which I both like & dislike. At first, I wanted to say nothing about this, becuz I do like the overall feeling of how your thoughts & feelings are organic & honest & reflect the average way most people feel. But as poets, we must be mindful that these simple sentiments have been poetically expressed millions of times in millions of ways. So a detail like "his cologne" is seen as cliche in this context, for me. There are dozens of details that I love smelling on another person whom I love to smell. Try finding a detail that's bright & unexpected! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
