Masked

Masked

A Poem by Leah Mayes

palm to palm

an eternal dance

disclosing the true nature

of circumstance

a masquerade ball

of simulated fury

masked in denial and

intangibility

suspect in custody

disguised in fascination

we mimic the misinterpreted

covert operation

a frightful disguise

this painted hypocrisy

reveal yourself

and your painful atrosities

conformity of fact

residue of expression

secret lovers under covers

hear each other's confessions
