False Memory

False Memory

A Poem by Leah Mayes

I remember when the sky looked blue

and grass tickled between my toes

I used to sit and admire the rain

never curious to where time goes

I remember when the world seemed small

and love was easy to find

my days were not numbered

and I knew all was kind

I remember when dreams were real

and imagination came to life

we sliced peanut butter and jelly''s

not tension, with a knife

I remember true excitement

making an adventure out of every day

I never thought for an instant

that it would some day fade away

Reminds me of the Vonnegut quote from Slaughterhouse Five "Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt." Of course it didn't last in the book and it often never lasts in real life. Growing up is tough :) Good rhythm, meter, flow and rhymes. I don't have really have any criticisms to add
