The Drug.

The Drug.

A Poem by Omar
"

This poem deals with the destructive force of the most beautiful and powerful narcotic of all time, love. It also describes all the things I did to receive love, having been so deprived of it.

"

You were my drug, the pleasure rush

I experienced was what I lived for,

The thought of going without you hurt.

Reflecting now, I see all the things my addiction

Had done to me, - I sacrificed, I changed,

I hurt myself just to receive my next fix.

The craving, insatiable force that tormented

My mind whenever I was without you.

I gave up my life chasing my next fix,

How ridiculous it all seems to lust after a temporary high.

I reflect on my choices now and the ghost of your song

Resonates within my mind, tormenting my soul.

Tempting me by targeting my weakness for your love.

To forget is not easy but it is necessary,

For the love is proved in the letting go.
