speak

speak

A Poem by lillian

speak before you eat
once more before you sleep
but never before approaching the flames
just as big of a feat

recite it from memory
tell the air your victory
but as you are speaking,
who then is listening?

find someone who cares
don't think too hard, they'll stare.
but when you ask who's there
they'll say he's everywhere.

an eternal fight for afterlife
what's true, what's wrong, and what is right.
for when the lights burn out at night
is he still watching over you?

they tell you not to doubt him
a figure who speaks when you listen
but if i don't want a godly alliance
why should i speak into the silence?
