Taking Control

Taking Control

A Poem by Nami Machae

You never understand until it takes control

I notice the track marks
on her once flawless skin
I never understood
Why a needle was so important
Until I decided to try it
Just to see how it was

I notice the look on his eyes
Once clear now glazed over
I never understood
why people needed more
Until I took the pipe and puffed

I notice their life fall apart
As everything the love is gone
I never understood
Why they wanted to continue
Until I met the monster

I notice as they fade
From reality to fantasy
I never understood
Why it was so needed
Until it took control of me

I notice as it drives them mad
Because it's never enough
I never understood
Why they were destroying themselves
Until I became them

I very much enjoyed this poem as it spoke on a multitude of levels for me and Im sure for others as well. Its so intimate and personal, touching and deep. Great work and a well deserved winner.

One thing I could say though is presentation and format. What I mean by that is like adding your commas, periods, capitalization, stuff like that. Perfect it.

Thank you for this piece! Keep on writing!

this poem perfectly describes how most people feel about drugs. You're absolutely right, many people underestimate how powerful an addiction can become, and therefore don't understand how hard it is to quit.
