Blinking

Blinking

A Poem by Donald Meikle

All the rings of truth in trees

Exhaust the shame that sees

So many steps from home

From when at first we roam

It's only ways of rhyme

In tear blind days of time

As all the years go round

Unmeasured until downed

I like this minimalistic treasure. Youth, beauty, glances, juicy lips and marble wrists - all will be gone... "unmeasured until downed", as you say. I liked this one a lot! Hope all is well with you and yours. Merry Christmas, Donald and say hello to your dear wife.

I liked the idea of comparing the passing of time to time being locked into the rings of trees until they're cut and the rings show. Time passes with tears and smiles, mistakes and accomplishments. Really a nice piece with seamless rhyme. A lot said in so few lines!

Sheesh, I'd forgotten how wonderful you do this poetry thing. I love the message behind this - the travel of time and the sweet sadness. The title just makes it for me. Perfect.
