You.

You.

A Story by k.

I miss you. I miss you like a tree misses its rain, or a flower misses a bee. Like you’re the piece of me I thought I’d need...
The reality is, you can be replaced. There are more bees. There’s always more rain. There are more people to hold me, to waste time on me, to share their warmth with me. More people to make me smile, to mock my fatigue, to save me when I lose myself.
But no one else is you.
You’re nothing rare, but you’re something special to me. You were. You always were.
We were nothing, but we were everything. We talked of the future. We spoke of dreams. We stayed out late for no reason, we spent sleepless nights talking about the most unimportant little concepts... We had a thing. I thought there was more. You said there was more.
But I had forgotten my own mantra:
words are only and just words.
They weren’t true. We believed everything, and it wasn’t true.
The universe has reasons for everything, but still, I don’t understand.
Why did I lose you?
Why didn’t you come back?
