I See Color

I See Color

A Story by Little Mouse
"

Deafening silence… I don't see color. I see evil. But how can I tell you this? I see you.

"

I grew up watching a step-family figure say we shouldn't have boyfriends ‘of color’.
She called me a bad name when she saw my 2nd grade Valentine to a cute boy.

        -  insert gasp and flash of anger -

I did not see color. But I sure learned color. In 2nd grade.

Sadly, it keeps going today. When they ask the kindergarten student, crafting a self-portrait to choose their construction paper skin tone. It, seems, so, odd.

     - What just happened? -   Damage control.

I see racism. Does racism kill?

I was taught evil kills.
Teach the young to just see evil. (or rather we hope they see none)
If not, we perpetuate the cycle.
For the sake of history?
For the sake of change.
We see no skin tone.

In Kindergarten, he was taught the “public school standard” for MLK Day.
He was taught some were treated differently.
He started asking and seemed confused,
should he see and separate, as they did?

Why did my son love all people and call all his brother and then the teaching of skin told him there was a difference to see?

What is the bigger agenda?

I can't breathe.
Please let me stand.
Don't kill me.

   - Chills. Sadness. Tears. Anger. -
   - Hopelessness. Silence. Fear.  -

Who is teaching this?

One million couldn’t breathe … and it is evil.
Evil is pre-planned.
Evil is born in the heart.
Evil is red.

I see color ...  it is bright, it is light... God's white light...
white for the prism … the color of all colors, merging to one...
Light. Not darkness. We are ONE.

   - And everyone sees color. -
   - How could she? How dare she speak?  -

God made us this way...  He holds all of this in HIS hands...
What is God but a flash of light. So fast, so bright, so perfect.
God will set this right, in his time.
We pray. We ask forgiveness.

Not many can set this right, by words or actions.
Very few. I don't even dare try, or do I?
I see color?
No.
I see evil.
And I choose light.

And what for change? How do we make change?
Whose idea is this? … Can we simplify?
Teach the change.
Focus on love.

In 2nd grade, the cutest boy, with the brightest smile…
making Valentine's, he got extra hearts.
Hearts of no difference.

   - But... No but’s.  -

and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.” Nelson Mandela
